HISTOMORPHOLOGY OF THE FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM OF UDUMBARIA NAINIENSIS GROVER (CECIDOMYIIDAE : DIPTERA)

The histomorphology of various components of female reproductive system of Udumbania nainiensis have been studied. The ovaries are polytrophic and the two short lateral oviducts lead into the common oviduct. In association with these structures are present a single spermatheca and a pair of accessory glands. These, along with the common oviduct, open into the genital chamber lying at the base of the ovipositor. The genital chamber in turn opens to the exterior through an egg pore, which is situated just below the apex of the ovipositor. The ovipositor is retractile and is of aciculate type.
